Kazembe Warns Against Unlawful 31 July Protests

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe says security forces are prepared to respond to any unlawful activities linked to planned protests on July 31.

He said Zimbabwe is governed by the rule of law and that law enforcement agencies are on standby to maintain peace and public order.

“This is a country governed by laws. This is a country with law enforcement agencies. I can assure you that nothing of that sort will happen. Law enforcement agents will be ready and waiting,” he said.

Kazembe said grievances must be channelled through constitutional and legal processes, not through unlawful actions.

“People have spoken, people are happy, and things have been done constitutionally. Therefore, it would be unreasonable for anyone to think of doing anything unlawful on July 31,” he said.

Kazembe added that while people are free to express their views, authorities would take action against conduct that breaches the law.

“People can say whatever they want on social media. However, I can assure you that this is a peaceful country, and there will be peace and tranquillity come July 31,” he said.

This comes after some civil society groups and activists announced plans for peaceful demonstrations and a nationwide shutdown in Zimbabwe on July 31, 2026, mainly to protest recent constitutional amendments and economic conditions.

The M31 Movement has called for a nationwide shutdown to oppose the Constitutional Amendment Act No. 6 of 2026, which extends the presidential term and delays elections.

The campaign follows earlier mobilisation videos by activists such as Bhekimpilo Mbedzi, who was arrested on July 15, 2026, for organising against the amendment.
