The government has opened 68.4km of the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Road to traffic under an ongoing rehabilitation and widening project, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development said on Friday.
The works, which started in July 2025, are progressing across all project lots as the government moves to improve the country’s road infrastructure.
According to the Ministry’s update as of 2 July 2026, eight contractors are working on the main project.
Syvern Investment has surfaced the longest stretch so far, with 13.9km completed on Lot 3. Masimba Holdings follows with 10.3km opened to traffic on Lot 2. Fossil Contracting has surfaced 6.2km on Lot 1, while Linash Construction has completed 6.1km on Lot 8. Tensor Systems and Bitumen Resources have surfaced 5.6km and 5.4km on Lots 5 and 4, respectively. Asphalt Products on Lot 6 and Bitumen World on Lot 7 have yet to open any sections to traffic.
In addition, 20.9km was surfaced in the Hwange section by Bitumen World under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2 (ERRP2), which started in June 2023.
The total distance now open to traffic stands at 68.4km, with 372km still to be completed.
The Bulawayo–Victoria Falls Road is a key economic corridor linking the country’s second-largest city to the premier tourist destination. It also serves as a major transit route for regional trade.
