Wicknell Chivayo has given diver Victor Kazembe, also known as “Coach Rambo”, a second vehicle and US$5,000 for fuel, saying he was impressed by the support Kazembe received from friends when he collected his first car. On that occasion, Kazembe’s friends rode motorcycles to accompany him as he received the car and cash.
Kazembe rose to national prominence after he successfully recovered three bodies from a sewer sludge pit in Budiriro 3, Harare.
Following the recovery, thousands of people called on Chivayo to reward Kazembe for his bravery. Chivayo agreed, but warned the public against dictating who he should reward. “Allow me to also understand the background and get an appreciation of what whoever has done, and whether he deserves my recognition,” he said.
He appeared to make light of the incident, saying: “When I heard him explain about the spirits of dead people, I didn’t even watch the rest of the video… all I heard was that he went swimming in thick sewage water trying to save some children here in Harare.”
Chivayo then announced his first gift to Kazembe: a Toyota Aqua and US$20,000 for fuel.
On Wednesday, 17 June, he took to social media again to announce a further gift — a brand-new Toyota Fortuner GD6 2.4D and another US$5,000.
He said Kazembe should give the Toyota Aqua to his wife, who would also receive US$5,000. Chivayo added that he would pay Kazembe’s bride price in full when he marries.
“Toyota Aqua chipa mukadzi wako anga akagara pa MOTHER’S seat awane cheku fambisa, and because of your level of APPRECIATION for what the world thought was small, she has also been upgraded to become a car OWNER. She will also receive cash USD 5000 kana wakuda kuroora unouya ndokubatsira ne pfuma yacho yese,” Chivayo said.
Chivayo added that real friends always celebrate your success, no matter how small.
“To all the 49 BIKERS who showed their SUPPORT and accompanied you to Enterprise Car Sales, EACH one of you will receive USD1,000 in cash as well,” wrote Chivayo.
