Dynamos missed out on a bus worth more than US$200,000 that had been promised by Wicknell Chivayo after their 2-1 defeat to CAPS United in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League on Sunday.
The club had to win the match to claim the gift.
“To us, the players and the team, it wasn’t officially communicated,” said Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe.
“But if you see on social media, some of the things will end up true.
“So, we wanted to win so that whatever comes, maybe we will get it. But what we also wanted was the winning bonus and, at the same time, to better our position on the log standings.”
DeMbare’s poor run continued on Sunday after they fell to CAPS United in the Harare derby, extending their winless streak to five matches. The result follows last week’s defeat at Chicken Inn and leaves them with three draws and two losses from their last five outings.
Goals from Ishmael Wadi and Kudzai Chigwida, either side of half-time, settled the contest for Makepekepe, though Jairos Kasondo briefly gave DeMbare hope when he converted a penalty. The 2-1 loss means DeMbare slips to seventh in the league table on 17 points.
For CAPS United, the victory lifts them to 25 points from 12 matches. They now sit one point clear of second-placed Hardrock at the top of the log.
The win also delivered on president Farai Jere’s pre-match promise to double the players’ winning bonus to US$1,000 each for beating their city rivals.
