A South African civic organisation, March and March, has warned that it will intensify its campaign against illegal immigration if the government fails to respond to its demands.

On Tuesday, the group submitted a memorandum of demands at the Union Buildings in Pretoria after a day of demonstrations through the capital’s streets.

The protest, which began at Burgers Park and moved through Sunnyside, swelled in numbers but remained largely peaceful under a heavy police presence.

Organisers said the submission marked what they described as their final memorandum, warning that future action would become more direct should their concerns continue to be ignored.

The movement is calling for tighter immigration controls, including stricter visa requirements, a review of asylum policies, and decisive action against businesses allegedly employing undocumented foreign nationals.

Leaders told supporters that the handover represented a turning point, urging the government to respond swiftly or face escalated protest action in the coming weeks.

Founder and leader of March and March, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, said the group’s stance is often misunderstood.

“They keep saying that we hate foreigners, we don’t care, it’s not hate. Actually, the hated people are us. Why do they leave their countries if they are hated here?” she said.

The group is expected to continue its demonstrations in the Johannesburg CBD, with another march planned towards the Gauteng Legislature as pressure mounts on authorities to respond.
