A ZANU-PF politician narrowly avoided arrest for contempt of court after hastily vacating a disputed portion of Dundrennam Farm in Lions’ Den, Mashonaland West.
Thomas Chidzomba had been accused of unlawfully occupying land belonging to Brink Bosman in 2024, relying on a power of attorney purportedly issued by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) commissioner and former Makonde legislator Kindness Paradza.
A lower court ordered him to vacate the property, finding that his occupation lacked lawful authority.
Chidzomba appealed to the High Court, citing both procedural and substantive irregularities, but the ruling was upheld last month. He was given 10 days to remove his belongings and restore vacant possession to the owner.
After the deadline lapsed, Chidzomba was said to have only partially complied, prompting the prospect of contempt proceedings. Bosman returned to court, arguing that the presence of fencing and gum poles continued to obstruct full use of the land.
Chidzomba’s lawyer, Fortune Murisi, acknowledged delays but maintained that his client had now complied fully with the court order.
“There may have been some delays which were communicated to Bosman, but we have since fully complied in accordance with the court’s directive,” Murisi said.
To avert possible arrest, Chidzomba reportedly hurried to the site and instructed villagers to remove the remaining gum poles and fencing materials for their own use, effectively clearing the property.
Bosman welcomed the development, saying the matter had finally been resolved.
“I am relieved that I can now fully utilise my property without any interference,” said Bosman.
