Villagers in Ward 15, Zaka, were reportedly delighted as they received meat from two elephants that were tracked for two days before being shot by Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) officers.
The two stray elephants were eventually killed on 16 April in the Goko area after roaming through parts of Zaka South.
They were first spotted on 14 April around 3 am in Chipfuti (Ward 24), before later being seen near Charuka around 5 am.
Rangers were deployed to track the animals, but they remained elusive until they were cornered and shot in Goko.
However, some wildlife enthusiasts have criticised the decision, arguing that the elephants had not attacked anyone and should have been captured and relocated to rejoin their herd instead of being killed.
