Civil servants in Zimbabwe will receive a salary increment starting 1 April 2026, following a government-led job evaluation exercise meant to align pay with roles and responsibilities.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Edgar Moyo announced the development during a media briefing in Bulawayo on Friday.
He said the adjustment demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of public servants and pensioners, although he did not disclose the exact amounts of the increase.
The salary offer was agreed upon during a National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) meeting held on 26 March 2026 at the Kaguvi Building in Harare.
The NJNC serves as a platform for collective bargaining between the government and civil service unions, where salaries, allowances, and working conditions for public sector workers are negotiated.
Speaking to state media on Friday, 27 March, Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZCPSTU) president Cecilia Alexander confirmed that the union had accepted the offer following deliberations with the government, but she declined to disclose specific figures. She said:
“Government tabled a remuneration offer which it indicated is informed by the outcomes of the job evaluation process.
“After some deliberations, we have taken a position to accept the offer in view of the urgent need to provide immediate relief to workers under the prevailing economic conditions.
“The US$320 will be maintained, and the outstanding portion will be paid in ZiG and indexed to the prevailing exchange rate.
“All public sector workers will be advised of their actual salaries through their respective official channels.”
