An 18-year-old woman from Epworth has been taken to court, accused of aggravated indecent assault after allegedly tricking a 16-year-old girl into believing she was a man.
Shamiso Melinda Sigara, who lives in the Overspill area, didn’t enter a plea during her appearance before Magistrate Jessie Kufa in Harare.
The prosecutor, Oscar Madhume, told the court that Sigara first approached the girl last November, claiming she was male and telling the girl she loved her.
The teenager reportedly accepted the proposal, and by 12 February 2026, Sigara had allegedly arranged for the girl to move in with her so they could live together as a married couple.
However, the court heard that the girl became suspicious that Sigara was actually a woman. She told her mother the very next day, and the police were called.
Sigara has been kept in custody while the court decides on her bail application.
