The Government said it has held talks with parties involved in the dispute over Chewore Lodge, a popular fishing resort in the Zambezi Valley.
Chewore Lodge, operated by Terry Kelly in partnership with the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS), was ordered to vacate the site after High Court judge Tawanda Chitapi ruled in March 2025 that its 2010 lease was invalid. The operator was given until June 2025 to leave the property.
Chewore appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, which has recently ruled against Kelly.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 15 January 2026, the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife said it is facilitating “an amicable resolution” that complies with the law while also protecting investment. The statement reads
“The Government of Zimbabwe, through the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife (MECW), has, this morning, engaged with all parties involved—Suscaden, Big 5, and the Zimbabwe Parks & Wildlife Management Authority—with a view to facilitating dialogue and fostering an amicable resolution to the ongoing issue regarding Chewore Safari Lodge.
“The engagements have been constructive, and all parties have expressed a shared commitment to resolving the matter within the shortest possible time frame, in a manner that is fair, mutually beneficial, and aligned with the applicable legal and policy frameworks.
“Consistent with the guiding principles of the Second Republic, the Ministry reiterates that Zimbabwe remains open for business and affirms its continued commitment to the promotion, facilitation, and protection of investment.”
