Seven cattle were electrocuted last week when a Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) power pole supporting electricity lines fell onto the paddock where they were grazing.
The incident occurred on 10 January 2026 at around 5 am. Preliminary reports suggest the pole collapsed due to wet ground.
The tragedy came to light after a local resident, Alban Clever Dete, discovered the dead cattle and reported the matter to Featherstone Police Station.
Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the incident and urged the public to avoid building or grazing animals near power lines for safety. He said:
“We are appealing to the public not to build any structures near ZETDC power lines and to quickly report any fallen ZETDC poles to avoid situations like this in the future.”
