A male student at Pamushana High School in Bikita, Masvingo Province, Mukudzei Ziveyi (19), scored an impressive 56 points in the 2025 Advanced Level examinations conducted by the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC).

Ziveyi achieved As (5 points) in Additional Mathematics, Mechanical Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Geography, Pure Mathematics, Software Engineering, Statistics, Crop Science, and Economics. He also earned a B (4 points) in Chemistry and a D (2 points) in Accounting.

Speaking to Sunday News, Ziveyi, who comes from Chivhu, said he was motivated by his ambition to study Aerospace Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He said:

“I give glory to God, because without praying, this would not have been possible.

“I actually started with eight subjects for Lower 6, whose syllabuses I read and finished.

“Then I added four other subjects when I was in Upper 6 to bring the total to 12 subjects.

“The advantage I had was that I studied for the other subjects well in advance to cover the ground in a short period of time, which would have ordinarily required much more time.”

Academic excellence is not new for Mukudzei Ziveyi. In the 2023 Ordinary Level ZIMSEC examinations, he was among 80 learners at Pamushana High School to score five As and was the highest achiever with 15 As.

His mother, Loise Maisiri, said Mukudzei has always been a bookworm from a young age. She added that when he expressed his wish to sit for 12 A-Level subjects, she and her husband were initially sceptical but eventually supported his decision.

Pamushana High School Deputy Headmaster Emmanuel Zingoni also admitted that he tried to dissuade Ziveyi from taking on 12 subjects, recognising the challenge, but the student insisted. He said:

“He has always been a bright student, and we are very proud of him for raising the school flag high.

“I will admit I did at one point try to reason with him that 12 subjects were too much for A Level, but he assured us that he was going to give equal attention to all of them.

“To ensure that we would be able to write all 12 subjects, we applied for a timetable deviation from ZIMSEC 60 days before the examination for special arrangements.

“This is for candidates with clashing examination papers scheduled at the same time.”
