Robert Tinotenda Mugabe Junior, son of the late former President Robert Mugabe, has been convicted of unlawful possession of drugs.
The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki on Thursday morning.
During mitigation, Mugabe asked for leniency, telling the court that he is a single father of two children. He said:
“I am a farmer, single father of two, earning US$7,0007 a month, a first-time offender and pleaded on my own accord.”
Mugabe was arrested in October after police allegedly found two sachets of dagga, a pack of Rizla papers, and a white dagga crusher in his sling bag during a traffic blitz in Harare.
He was then granted US$300 bail by Harare Magistrate Mutendereki after spending two nights in custody.
Court papers reveal that Mugabe was stopped while driving a silver Honda Fit (registration AGY 5850) against a one-way street along 2nd Street Extension.
Prosecutor Mandirasa Chigumira told the court that the recovered dagga, weighing two grams and valued at US$30, would be presented as evidence.
Mugabe, represented by lawyer Ashiel Mugiya, is scheduled to be sentenced this afternoon.
