The Zimbabwe Congress of Student Unions (ZICOSU) has accused the Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) of staging abductions to influence the student vote ahead of the Student Representative Council (SRC) elections.
The claims come after ZINASU reported that two of its members from Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), Lindon Zanga and Marlvin Saint Madanda, were allegedly kidnapped on Monday night during SRC campaigns.
The students were reportedly abducted at Mzimba Shopping Centre in Chinhoyi and later found on Tuesday in the Bhutsu area near Shamva, having been beaten and injured.
ZINASU said the pair was taken by unidentified individuals in an unmarked grey Isuzu, a vehicle that had been seen on campus distributing campaign materials for ZICOSU.
In response, ZICOSU released a statement denying any involvement, saying it does not engage in “dirty tricks or drama” and accusing ZINASU of spreading propaganda, producing misleading posters, and seeking attention through these claims.
