Ibhetshu LikaZulu Top Official Resigns, Questions Motive Behind Court Challenge Against ZANU-PF Term Extension

Ibhetshu LikaZulu Secretary for Information and Publicity, Gifford Sibanda, resigned from the organisation on Thursday, saying he felt misled by its leadership.

Sibanda’s departure follows the recent court application filed by Ibhetshu LikaZulu and Secretary-General Mbuso Fuzwayo challenging ZANU-PF’s plan to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term from 2028 to 2030.

However, reports suggest that the true aim of the application may not be to uphold or defend the Constitution, but rather to obtain a court ruling declaring the extension legal — a decision that could then be used to justify extending the presidential term limit. Below is Sibanda’s resignation from Ibhetshu Likazulu:

“It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation from Ibhetshu LikaZulu, effective immediately. This decision comes after deep reflection on the current direction and approach the organisation has taken in the struggle against ZANU-PF.

“Unfortunately, I find that this route diverges from my own beliefs, principles, and the foundational values that Ibhetshu LikaZulu has long stood for.

“This is not an easy decision. Ibhetshu LikaZulu has been a home of conscience and courage—a movement that stood firmly with the oppressed and gave voice to the voiceless.

“I am proud of the sacrifices we have made together in pursuit of justice, accountability, and the dignity of our people.

“Though I part ways with the organisation, my commitment to the struggle for restorative justice, human rights, and democracy remains steadfast.

“I will continue to contribute, in my own capacity, to the vision of a just and democratic Zimbabwe for which we have all fought.

“I wish Ibhetshu LikaZulu continued strength and clarity of purpose in the days ahead.”

So far ED2030 is just noise in corridors so why challenge it in court. Its like hearing rumours that I will still a car then you go file for justice against me when crime is not yet done. This guy should use his brain efficiently.
