Scottland have stretched their advantage at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table to six points following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over title rivals MWOS at Rufaro Stadium on Matchday 31, Saturday.

The Mabvuku-based side now sit on 62 points, six ahead of second-placed defending champions Simba Bhora, who dropped points in a 2-1 defeat to Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium on the same day.

Former Warriors captain Knowledge Musona scored the decisive goal in the 14th minute, expertly converting an assist from his brother Walter Musona.

MWOS thought they had levelled late in the first half, but Billy Vheremu’s effort was ruled out for offside.

At Baobab Stadium, Simba Bhora fell behind in the title race after conceding twice to Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Simba took the lead in the 42nd minute through Isaskar Guribab following a defensive lapse, only for Nisbert Muzenda to equalise for Ngezi before Farai Madhananga struck the winner in the 80th minute.

The victory lifted Ngezi to 54 points, though they remain in fourth place.

Elsewhere, former champions FC Platinum suffered a 1-0 defeat to TelOne, with Panashe Mutasa netting the only goal in the 18th minute.

Greenfuel recorded the weekend’s most emphatic victory, hammering Kwekwe United 5-0, while the clash between Yadah and ZPC Kariba ended in a 1-1 draw.

With just three games remaining, Scottland look well-positioned to secure the league title, though the battle for the top four and relegation battles promise to go down to the wire.
