A four-year-old boy tragically died in Mbare, Harare, on Friday, 17 October, after being struck on the head by a tombstone.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the victim, aged four years and seven months, had accompanied his father to purchase a tombstone at the corner of Ninth Street and Mushongandebvu Street.
While there, the boy reportedly tripped and tried to steady himself by holding onto a tombstone on display. The heavy stone fell on him, causing fatal injuries.
The child was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead upon admission.
In an unrelated incident, Police in Gwelutshena are investigating a violent incident at Sigilikithi Village, Sikhobokobo, which left one man dead and several others injured on 15 October.
Police confirmed that two brothers, Yizo Dlodlo (46) and Mduduzi Dlodlo, allegedly attacked a local man and his wife with knobkerries and axes.
The confrontation reportedly arose after the complainants demanded US$15 which they had paid as fine at the Village Head’s Tribunal court for illegally letting their cattle into protected pastures.
Two other villagers, Ndumiso Mathe and Velele Sibanda, came to the couple’s aid and retaliated, using logs, an axe, and a knobkerrie against the Dlodlo brothers.
Yizo Dlodlo was killed on the spot, while Mduduzi Dlodlo and the couple sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to hospital.
