The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has received a fresh injection of US$10 million from Treasury to boost payments to farmers, bringing total payments for the summer deliveries to 80% of the USD component.

This follows last week’s US$5 million payment, which together aim to support farmers as they prepare for the current farming season.

GMB said timely payments are crucial for maintaining national food security and strengthening the Strategic Grain Reserve (SGR).

In a statement issued on Friday, 17 October, GMB Chief Executive Officer Edson Badarai expressed gratitude to farmers for their patience and commitment to national food security.

He also commended Minister of Agriculture Anxious Masuka for engaging Treasury to secure the funds, noting the government’s efforts to accelerate agricultural transformation.

The GMB board thanked Treasury for mobilising resources that contribute to enhanced food security and assured farmers that it continues to work on securing additional support.
