Police have confirmed the arrest of social media personality Josephine Mutongi in connection with her fundraising activities and activism for the families of three children who were found dead in the trunk of a car in Kuwadzana Extension.
Mutongi organised a public march, urging participants to wear white in solidarity, but she did not obtain police clearance for the event.
At the funeral, she allegedly collected cash donations from mourners without the approval of the grieving families.
She later posted a video on social media claiming that she was handing over the funds she had collected.
Mutongi has since apologised for her actions.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed her arrest on Tuesday, 14 October, but did not provide further details. The ZRP said:
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Josephine Mutongi in connection with ongoing investigations. More details will be released tomorrow.”
