Nkulumane MP Desire Moyo (CCC) has died after the vehicle carrying five lawmakers returning from Parliament in Harare collided with an elephant near Shangani on the Bulawayo-Gweru Highway early on Friday.

Moyo, a first-term legislator, former teacher, and acclaimed poet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other lawmakers, Matobo’s Madalaboy Ndebele, Bulawayo Senator Rittah Ndlovu, Tsholotsho North MP Libion Sibanda, and Matabeleland North Proportional Representative Sethulo Ncube, sustained injuries in the same crash.

The tragedy was confirmed by Nkayi South legislator Jabulani Hadebe and Emakhandeni-Luveve MP Discent Bajila.

Moyo was elected as Nkulumane MP in the 2023 general election and was among the opposition legislators who were not recalled by Sengezo Tshabangu.
