Government Launches Awareness Drive To Encourage People To Pay Taxes

Essential Tools

The government, through the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, has launched the “Your Tax Works, See the Change in Your Community” campaign to showcase development projects funded by taxes.

The initiative is also meant to educate citizens on the importance of paying taxes. It was launched this week in Marondera, Mashonaland East province.

Pretty Moyo, director of communications and advocacy at the Ministry of Finance, told Zimpapers that the six-month programme will be rolled out across all provinces in Zimbabwe. Said Moyo:

“It is a six-month-long campaign where the Ministry of Finance, together with Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), are moving around Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces and will be visiting three districts per province where we are urging people to pay tax.

“We want people to understand that it is the money from taxes that is driving socio-economic development.

“We want people to see where they are coming from when it comes to national development. People should understand where we come in as the nation puts efforts to achieve Vision 2030.

“So we are moving around with this programme, meeting various community members who include business people and community leaders. We are just conscientising them on the importance of paying tax.”
