An unidentified man was found dead early on Wednesday morning, lying face-up beneath a footbridge in Area 3 of Dangamvura, Mutare.

According to The Manica Post, the body was discovered by passers-by, who promptly alerted the police.

Officers attended the scene and removed the body, which was then taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for further examination.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been established, and the cause of death remains unknown.

A local resident, Muchaneta Nemate, told the publication that she was deeply shocked by the discovery.

She said she was worried for the safety of community members, particularly women and children, who cross the footbridge daily. Said Nemate:

This is very disturbing. We use this path every day, even late at night. To wake up and find a dead body here is frightening.

The deceased had scratches on his face but it seems he had been dead for days as his body was already in a state of decomposition.

We do not know what happened to him, but it worries us that someone could die here without anyone noticing.

In an unrelated incident, police in Chinhoyi are investigating a suspected murder following the discovery of a 53-year-old man’s body along a footpath near a church on Robson Manyika Road.

The victim, identified as Nelson Mhlanga, was found dead on 28 July 2025 with stab wounds to his hand and groin.

Police have appealed to members of the public with any information relating to the incident to come forward and report at the nearest police station.
