Glidwell Trading, operating as Bhola Hardware City, has been fined US$300 after being found guilty of breaching the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act.

The company was convicted by Harare magistrate Gamuchirai Gore for possessing unspecified medicines intended for sale.

The company was represented in court by its manager, Bhavik Kanttial Jassa, aged 32.

The prosecution, led by Mandirasa Chigumira, proved that on 21 July this year, detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit in Harare received a tip-off alleging that the company was selling unapproved complementary medicines at Bhola Mega Market.

Following the report, detectives conducted surveillance on the premises and observed the sale of the unapproved products.

They approached Jassa, identified themselves, and informed him of their intention to search the shop.

During the search, officers recovered 587 bottles of Tsunami (3 millilitres each) and 161 tins of Essential Balm (19 grammes each), both classified as unapproved complementary medicines by Zimbabwe’s regulatory authority.

The products were found on the shop’s shelves and within a glass display cabinet.

Jassa was arrested on the spot and taken, along with the seized items, to the CID Drugs and Narcotics offices for further investigation.
