MultiChoice has lost 1.2 million DStv subscribers over the past year, with South Africa seeing a decline of 589,000 and an additional 591,000 lost across its other African markets.
In its results, published on Wednesday, the company attributed this downturn to widespread financial disruptions affecting economies, businesses, and consumers across sub-Saharan Africa.
It further cites structural shifts in the video entertainment industry, including the growing influence of piracy, streaming services, and social media, as major factors affecting its overall performance.
In addition to these market challenges, power shortages in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, ongoing fuel and electricity issues in Nigeria, and civil unrest in Mozambique have further impacted subscriber activity.
Despite these setbacks, MultiChoice retains a subscriber base of 14.5 million, split between 7 million in South Africa and 7.5 million across the Rest of Africa.
