Trajectories of Tropical Storms are subject to change and their effects on Zimbabwe depend on their positions. Depending on their position, tropical storms may cause dry spells or heavy rains or have no effect on Zimbabwe. Currently, CHENESO is about 1 800km from the eastern border of Zimbabwe. The public is advised not to panic but to keep updated through MSD and/or the Department of Civil Protection official platforms.

Differences between a storm and a cyclone:

A tropical storm is a type of storm with winds between 39-73 mph. A cyclone is a more severe storm, with winds over 74 mph. Both types of storms can bring heavy rain and strong winds, and they form over warm ocean waters. “Cyclone” is mostly used in the Southern Hemisphere and “Hurricane” or “Typhoon” is used in the Northern Hemisphere.
