Mother And Baby Scalded With Cooking Oil By Co-tenant In Epworth

An Epworth woman has been arrested after she allegedly scalded a co-tenant and her baby with boiling cooking oil following an undisclosed dispute.

The suspect, Vanessa Nyakabawo (23), fled to Highfields after committing the offence and was arrested at Machipisa Shopping Centre.

Nyakabawo appeared before magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa facing attempted murder charges on Thursday and was remanded in custody to 29 December.

Prosecutors told the court that the mother and her baby are battling for life at Harare’s Sally Mugabe Central Hospital in Harare.

Last month a man from Zhombe, Midlands Province, was seriously injured after he was scalded with hot cooking oil by his wife who accused him of infidelity.

ZRP spokesperson in Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, revealed that the man, Taurai Hlala, was in the company of his wife Sobrine Muzioni, in the early hours of Sunday, and the couple was listening to music on a cellphone.

Suddenly, audio of a female voice started playing on the phone and a misunderstanding arose between the two. Said Mahoko:

The suspect is said to have gone to the kitchen where she boiled cooking oil and poured it on the complainant, resulting in him sustaining serious injuries.

Hlala was rushed to Kwekwe District Hospital where he was further referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital. | NewZimbabwe.com
