Zimbabwe Weather Report & Forecast: 21 To 23 October 2022

The weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Services Department in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection.

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON FRIDAY 21 OCTOBER 2022 VALID UNTIL SUNDAY 23 OCTOBER 2022.

PREAMBLE

There were brief cloudy periods and light showers over Mutoko, Nyanga, Mutare and Chipinge Districts, all other areas had mostly clear skies and mild morning conditions.

However, by afternoon scattered clouds had developed over Matabeleland North, northern parts of the Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Manicaland and all Mashonaland Provinces as moisture continues to filter into the country from the northeast. Meanwhile, winds over the southeast coast of Southern Africa are slowly gaining momentum.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, SATURDAY 22 OCTOBER 2022.

It should be briefly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms over Manicaland and Mashonaland East Provinces.

Scattered clouds and warm day-time conditions are expected over Matabeleland North, northern parts of Midlands, northern districts of Masvingo, Harare Metropolitan and All Mashonaland Provinces.

Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan and southern areas of Midlands Provinces are anticipated to be mostly sunny, hot and humid and hot by day, becoming mild and windy towards evening.

IMPACTS

  • Lightning is a major risk during this period.
  • FIRE SEASON: Dry and hot conditions exacerbate the spread of veldt fires
  • Windy and hazy conditions enhance the occurrence of hay fever and asthma.
  • Hot daytime conditions may affect the body’s health, with dehydration being highly likely.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

  • When thunder roars, go indoors. Stay indoors during thunderstorms
  • The public is urged to avoid starting wildfires and safeguard against their spread by constructing fireguards that are at least 9 (nine) meters wide and are maintained free from combustible matter.
  • Keep hydrated and avoid prolonged periods in direct sunlight, especially between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm when the sun is at peak intensity.
  • Dress appropriately to keep cool during the day, and ensure vulnerable members of society are not overdressed. Wear a sunhat if you need to be engaged in outdoor activities.

OUTLOOK: WEATHER FORECAST FOR TUESDAY 18 OCTOBER 2022

It should be humid and hot over Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South as well as Bulawayo Metropolitan.

Scattered clouds should drift into these areas from the west making isolated bouts of thunder probable.
