Zimbabwe Weather Report & Forecast: 16 To 18 October 2022

The weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Services Department in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection.

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON SUNDAY 16 OCTOBER 2022 VALID UNTIL TUESDAY 18 OCTOBER 2022.

PREAMBLE

It was cloudy, windy and cool over Matabeleland South, Masvingo, southern parts of Midlands and Manicaland Provinces this morning.

All other areas were mild at first and became hot by afternoon with mostly sunny conditions prevailing.

Meanwhile, a cloud band is slowly approaching from Botswana to the west of Zimbabwe.

FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, MONDAY 17 OCTOBER 2022.

Brief cloudy periods are anticipated over districts such as Beitbridge, Chiredzi and Chipinge. It should be mild in the morning, becoming warm by the afternoon.

All other areas should have mostly clear skies and mild morning conditions, becoming hot by afternoon. Windy interludes remain probable.

IMPACTS

  • FIRE SEASON: Dry and hot conditions exacerbate the spread of veldt fires.
  • Windy and hazy conditions enhance the occurrence of hay-fever and asthma.
  • Poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations.
  • Hot daytime conditions may affect the body’s health, with dehydration and sunburn being common during this period.

ACTIONS TO TAKE

  • The public is urged to safeguard against the spreading of wildfires by constructing fireguards that are maintained free from combustible matter and are at least 9 (nine) meters wide.
  • Avoid starting outdoor fires that can easily run wild.
  • Keep hydrated and avoid prolonged periods in direct sunlight, especially between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm when the sun is at peak intensity.
  • Dress appropriately to keep cool during the day, and ensure vulnerable members of society are not overdressed.
  • Wear a sunhat if you need to be engaged in outdoor activities.
  • Poultry producers should check temperature levels regularly and adjustments made to reduce bird mortality and increase productivity.

OUTLOOK: WEATHER FORECAST FOR TUESDAY 18 OCTOBER 2022

It should be humid and hot over Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South as well as Bulawayo Metropolitan.

Scattered clouds should drift into these areas from the west making isolated bouts of thunder probable.

Masvingo, Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Manicaland and all Mashonaland Provinces should be mostly sunny and hot by day becoming mild towards evening.
