ZIMRA Warns Of Fraudsters Pretending To Be Tax Auditors

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has warned members of the public about fraudsters masquerading as ZIMRA tax auditors. In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZIMRA said the imposters are claiming to be conducting audits to issue Audits Clearance Certificate or Compliance Clearance Certificate R/T5 Certificate. Reads the notice:

PUBLIC NOTICE: BOGUS ZIMRA OFFICIALS ON A PROWL

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) wishes to advise its valued clients. members of staff and the public in general, to be on the lookout for fraudsters posing as ZIMRA officials. The fraudsters who are masquerading as Tax Auditors are using the following names G. Munangatire, Mr P. Ruwizhi, Mrs. Munangatire, Mrs. Dube and Mrs. Nyakudya or other names. The imposters who are claiming to be conducting audits to issue Audits Clearance Certificate or Compliance Clearance Certificate R/T5 Certificate are not ZIMRA staff members.

These bogus officials have been reported as sending SMSs and have been calling taxpayers announcing intention to conduct an audit and subsequently soliciting for bribes to avoid being audited or having the results on the intended audit being altered in the taxpayer’s favour. ZIMRA’s clients are advised to be on the lookout for these fraudsters and to avoid obeying the-cr-m.rial demands. Clients are encouraged to be aware of the following:

• ZIMRA is not associated with and has no links with the bogus Auditors purportedly conducting ZIMRA work in the manner described above.

• All ZIMRA employees have clearly defined work procedures and do not carry out ZIMRA business over unofficial personal media platforms such as SMS, WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook.

• All ZIMRA employees carry with them valid staff identity cards when on duty and do not ask for any form of monetary deposits into their personal bank accounts for them to conduct ZIMRA business.

• ZIMRA clients should not be intimidated into unnecessarily parting with their monies three – actions of the bogus ZIMRA employees.
