1 000 Trucks To Transport Disco’s Steel Plant Equipment To Zimbabwe

Dinson Iron and Steel Company (Disco) said part of the US$100 million worth of equipment for its steel plant in Chivhu that arrived in Durban, South Africa, will be transported to Zimbabwe by 1 000 heavy trucks. The company said:

This is part of the US$100 million worth of the steel plant’s equipment and machinery that will be brought into the country after docking in South Africa (and will be carried) by 1 000 haulage trucks.

The first batch of the equipment and machinery comprises general blast furnace components.

The equipment is expected to arrive at the plant site in Mvuma by month-end.

Disco is constructing a US$1 billion steel-manufacturing plant in Manhize, Chivhu, Mashonaland East.

The company is a Zimbabwe subsidiary of the Chinese steel producer, Tsingshan Holdings.

  1. I wonder how many trucks will crash due to travelling at night. Trucks (and buses) should only be allowed on our roads during daylight hours – 6.30am to 5.30pm.

    1. Safety first all the time it’s possible to reach Zimbabwe nothing can harm you as you said from 6h30 to 17h30 you’ll be moving

    1. Sad that all this equipment had to be imported instead of being manufactured in Zim, imagine the economic effect (jobs , income….everything).

    1. There is nill percentage cut for the organisers if the railways are used, but upto 20% of the total cost if they use the trucks, somebody at Beitbridge will get to pocket USD$10 per truck coming in, then there is the bribe to be paid at roadblocks and at weigh bridges enroute.

  3. Al this is hot air! Better they concentrate on curbing price increases of basic commodities and runaway inflation.
How is the nation going to benefit from this looting of our resources? apart from a few hundred ill treated workers to be employed what really is the nation going to benefit?

  4. It’s good if meant to develop Zimf but what I know is all looting strategized mechanism look the Marange Diamond exploration what did it produce; mensons in the forestry chiyadwa poor residents, in which an aerodrome was designed for a direct landing of a boing 707 from China(looting strategy), a 4way high way that is connected to a trial route that link Poor Chipinge town and a filthy Mutare. What a messy government
