Harare Demands Licenses From Companies Discharging Liquid Waste Into Council's Wastewater System
Harare City Council has said industrial and commercial properties generating and discharging trade effluent into the municipality’s wastewater system will need licences. Trade effluent is any liquid waste, other than surface water and domestic sewage that is discharged from premises being used for a business, trade or industrial process. Pindula News presents the local government’s statement:
NOTICE TO INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE
ALL industrial and commercial properties generating trade effluent and discharging it directly or indirectly (through manholes) into the municipal wastewater system are with effect from 1 January 2022, required to apply for a renewable Trade Effluent Discharge License (TEDL) at an annual fee of US$500 (or $ZWL equivalent) in terms of Environmental Management Act (EMA) Chapter 20:21 of 2002 Section 59(1).
The application forms for the TEDL are obtainable at the City’s Trade Waste Inspectorate Office (Cleveland House 6th Floor Office Number 601) at a cost of US$5 ( or equivalent $ZWL) per form.
