Zero COVID-19 Cases In Warriors’ AFCON Camp

All the twenty-two (22) Warriors players in the AFCON squad tested negative for coronavirus on Saturday.

With no injuries, it means that all the 22 players will be available for the Group B encounter against Senegal on Monday at 3 PM CAT. The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) tweeted on Sunday morning:

Cleared. There were no positive cases recorded from COVID-19 PCR tests conducted on #TeamZimbabwe yesterday.

All 22 #Warriors are available for our match against Senegal tomorrow at 2 PM [GMT+1]

Meanwhile, according to The Guardian, Napoli and Senegal centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly tested positive for COVID-19, the Serie A club said on Saturday. Napoli said in a statement:

Kalidou Koulibaly has tested positive for Covid-19 while on international duty with Senegal.

The defender, who is vaccinated and asymptomatic, is now in self-isolation as per protocol.

Besides Koulibaly, midfielders Pape Matar Sarr and Nampalys Mendy and the striker Mame Thiam also tested positive.

The Senegal Football Federation general secretary, Victor Seh Cissé, later said that a further six staff members had also tested positive.
