Masvingo Men Lose US$13 000 To Fake Cattle Seller

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged members of the public to be vigilant after two Masvingo men were robbed of nearly US$13 000 by a person they offered accommodation.

ZRP says the incident happened on 30 September in Mwenezi. Said the police in a statement released this Saturday:

The ZRP urges members of the public against trusting strangers. This follows an armed robbery case that occurred on 30/09/21 in Mwenezi, where two men, aged 52 and 68, were robbed of cash amounting to US$ 12 920, ZWL$ 45 000 and cellphones

One of the complainants, who are cattle buyers, received a call from an unknown caller purporting to be selling 36 cattle. The suspect told the complainant that he was in Kwekwe and intended to sleep over at the complainant’s house before proceeding to the Maranda area where he claimed his cattle were.

The suspect was offered accommodation before producing an unidentified pistol and demanded cash from the complainants.

Some suggested the robberies were committed by state security agents or at least the weapons used in robberies would have been obtained from the state. One commentator said:

If you want to see, in all these robbery cases they don’t shoot because they use state guns. As for me try me you will tell others, I will not be threatened by these stupid thugs. Come at Madeira Zvish and learn from me.

Cases of armed robberies have been on the rise lately with some robbers stealing from the people who would have offered them transport on the roads.
