Bulawayo Announces Water Cuts For Several Suburbs

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has advised residents that there will be disruptions to the water supplies to the areas supplied by the Tuli Reservoir due to ZESA maintenance works.

BCC Town Clerk Christopher Dube on Saturday said maintenance works are scheduled for today between 6 AM and 2 PM and as a result, the local authority would not be able to pump water from the dams and conduct water treatment at the Ncema Water Treatment works during the period. Dube said in a statement:

The City of Bulawayo would like to advise members of the public that there will be disruptions to the water supplies programme for areas fed by Tuli Reservoir due to ZESA Maintenance works on the two 88kv lines, in Filabusi and Gwanda.

The maintenance works that are scheduled for today, Saturday, 11th September 2021 will be carried out from 06:00 hours to 14:00 hours.

Consequently, all installations between Bulawayo and Filabusi will be off the national grid during the mentioned period with all power-based operations halted.

As a result, the City of Bulawayo will NOT be able to carry out any pumping from the dams and conduct water treatment at the Ncema Water Treatment works during the interval.

While all efforts have been made in advance to mitigate the effects of the ZESA maintenance it is regrettable that effects will still register on the Tuli reservoir that is expected to deplete rapidly during the period of no pumping and no treatment resulting in the closure of all Tuli areas once the level of the reservoir reaches 6 feet.

The areas supplied by the Tuli Reservoir are as follows: Esigodini, Imbizo Barracks, Fortunes gate, Selbourne Park, Matsheumhlope, Parklands, Khumalo, Queenspark, Suburbs, Mahatshula, Woodville, Kingsdale, Lochview, Sunninghill, Marlands, Glencoe, Riverside, Waterford, Manningdale, Willsgrove, Buenavista, Douglasdale.

Bulawayo City Council wishes to apologise to its valued consumers for the inconvenience likely to be caused and assures the affected residents that supplies will be restored once the Tuli level has appreciated to satisfactory levels which will be hours after the power restoration to the affected Council water installations.
