Zuma Undergoes Surgery, Remains In Hospital - Correctional Services

South Africa’s Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has confirmed that former President Jacob Zuma remains in a hospital outside the Estcourt Correctional Centre.

According to the department, Zuma underwent a surgical procedure on Saturday with further procedures scheduled for the coming days.

Zuma was admitted to an outside hospital for medical observation on Friday 6 August 2021.

The DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says the department is unable to predict a discharge date. Watch the video below for more details.

Zuma is currently serving a 15-month prison sentence for refusing to appear before the Zondo Commission of Inquiry that was investigating him of corruption he allegedly committed while he was still president.

He has been in prison since 8 July when he surrendered himself to the police.

His imprisonment plunged South Africa into chaos as his supporters embarked on protests mainly in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal provinces.

The protests were characterised by the looting of businesses and the blocking of roads.

The government said the protests were aimed at toppling the Cyril Ramaphosa-led administration.
