Methodist Church In Zimbabwe Speaks On No Unvaccinated Congregants Directive

The Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, (MCZ) has said it will abide by the government’s directive that forbids unvaccinated congregants to attend in-person church services.

RE: METHODIST CHURCH IN ZIMBABWE STATEMENT ON IN-PERSON SERVICES TO THE METHODIST COMMUNITY

Following the pronouncement by the Government on the re-opening of Churches, the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe appreciates the announcement to allow the Churches to open for in-person services for the fully vaccinated congregants with effect from 11 August 2021. In response to this pronouncement, the Church leadership met to deliberate on the statement and agreed on the following:

1. Methodists are responsible citizens, and they will abide by the laws of the land.

2. The Methodist Churches will officially open on Sunday 22 August 2021. From today up to Sunday 22 August 2021 the clergy and Church leaderships in different Circuits and Societies will be preparing for the safe opening of Churches. The preparations include the fumigation of Church premises and the mobilisation of Personal Protective Equipment.

3. The Church encourages all ministers to make sure that both the fully vaccinated who will attend Church services in-person and those not yet fully vaccinated will receive the good news of Christ as the later will be evangelised through the continuation of online services.

4. The Methodist Church will continue to encourage its community to follow all the World Health Organisations and Ministry of Health and Child Care health protocols of:

a. Temperature checks for all the congregants who come to Church

b. The proper wearing of face masks all the time during and after the Church services

c. Regular washing of hands and sanitization

d. Social distancing inside and outside the Church.

5. The Church is also encouraging its responsible and accountable congregants to be vaccinated with the aim of augmenting Government’s efforts to reach the herd immunity.

6. The Church will continue to engage its medical fraternity to initiate programmes to educate its congregants on Covid-19 vaccines.

7. In the meantime, the Church is discouraging Sunday Scholars below the age of 12 to attend in-person services and ministers are encouraged to provide spiritual nourishment to this flock of Christ using best possible means that suit their environments.

8. We are also imploring any member/members who have any symptoms of Covid-19 to quickly seek medical assistance, isolate themselves and share with fellow congregants in order to get moral and spiritual support in such trying times.

9. The Church also continues to encourage both the clergy and the laity to practice all Covid-19 protocols during funerals and treat any death as a Covid-19 case.
