Chamisa Now More Appealing To Voters Following POLAD Cars Saga - Mzembi

Exiled former minister of Tourism, Dr Walter Mzembi, has said opposition MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa is now more appealing to voters following the receipt of cars from the government by members of the Political Actors’ Dialogue platform (POLAD).

He speaks after President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday handed over 19 brand new Isuzu double cabs to POLAD members saying they were for use in the members’ execution of their POLAD duties.

Members will wholly own the vehicles after three years and will not return them to the government.

Posting on microblogging site, Twitter, on Sunday, Mzembi suggested that the vehicles were “bad gifts” or “wages of treachery”, that gave Chamisa an edge over his opponents. He said:

I think it’s a boomerang on ED . @nelsonchamisa by not receiving the poisoned chalice is more appealing to Voters right now. His ratings are up. Interestingly POLAD car beneficiaries also feature on the JOMIC car list, Ndomuririro wadzo shiri idzi! [that’s their culture].

Others suggested that the cars were given to POLAD members to spite Chamisa for refusing to accept that Mnangagwa won the 2018 elections.

Some said the move was meant to bribe and in the process compromise POLAD members ahead of the 2023 elections. They add that the politicians will be needed to legitimise Mnangagwa’s rule in the event that the elections are disputed.

One of the POLAD members, Professor Lovemore Madhuku who leads the opposition National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) justified the receipt of the cars saying they were not personal gifts from the president.

POLAD is a dialogue platform created by Mnangagwa following calls for the need for dialogue with the opposition to find solutions for the country’s deep-rooted economic, humanitarian and political crises that were reportedly being worsened by the impasse between ZANU PF and the opposition.
