Inflation A Weapon Used To Effect Regime Change - Govt

The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa has said the government is putting measures in place to deal with inflation, an issue she described as a weapon used to effect regime change.

She made the remarks while addressing Senate on Thursday during which she also claimed that the government had unearthed empirical evidence to show that the country’s inflation was created to forestall efforts towards reviving the country’s economic fortunes.

Mutsvangwa was responding to opposition legislators who blamed Statutory Instrument (SI) 127 of 2021, meant to curb foreign currency black market activities, for fuelling inflation in the country. She said:

Generally, the economy of this country has done very well. It is doing extremely well to the point where even the International Monetary Fund and World Bank are actually applauding the government for what the dream team in the fiscal and monetary policies are doing.

There are a number of things which the President (Emmerson Mnangagwa) and the government have done to make sure that we deal with the issue of the weapon of inflation, which has been used in this country by dominant post-imperial colonialists to just make sure that there is regime change in this country.

Senator Mutsvangwa also claimed that the introduction of the SI and the introduction of the forex auction frustrated efforts to destabilise the economy.

She said while transformation cannot be felt overnight, there is a great difference between the status quo and the situation that prevailed in June 2020 before the SI 127.

Mutsvangwa said while the parallel market was still in existence, the parallel market rate is no longer controlling the economy as it did back then before the statutory instruments were put in place.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government has always claimed that there were economic saboteurs choking efforts to revive the economy.

Some observers claim the said saboteurs are within the ruling ZANU PF as they fear a change in the state of affairs will leave them worse off.
