South Africa Unrest: Mnangagwa Calls For Peaceful Resolution
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for a peaceful resolution to the unrest in South Africa that has seen at least 72 people dead.
Violence and looting erupted Thursday last week following the arrest of former president Jacob Zuma on Wednesday night.
Thousands have since been arrested but observers believe the situation may have far-reaching consequences if authorities fail to take the right action in time. Speaking on the unrest this Thursday, President Mnangagwa said:
On behalf of all Zimbabweans, both at home and abroad, we wish that the current challenges plaguing our South African brothers and sisters are resolved peacefully.
Only when there is peace in South Africa, is there peace in our region.

Fears abound that the unrest will trigger food shortages in South Africa and also affect the Zimbabwean economy as many businesses import from the neighbouring country.
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to meet political parties in the countries to discuss a way forward.
The Economic Freedom Fighters led by Julius Malema have, however, refused to be part of the meeting saying the matter was a manifestation of ANC internal squabbles.
