Nkiwane, Chimonyo Declared National Heroes
One of the pioneers of the liberation struggle Abraham Dumezweni Nkiwane and Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Commander, Lieutenant General Edzayi Chimonyo have been declared national heroes.
Chimonyo died this week aged after a prolonged battle with cancer while Nkiwane, a former Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) commander and veteran nationalist, died in the early hours of Tuesday at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where he was admitted.
Nkiwane was 93 while Chimonyo was 69.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced Chimonyo’s hero status this Friday afternoon at the late’s home in Greystone Park Harare.
Meanwhile, Zanu-PF secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu delivered the message to the Nkiwane family this Thursday that the veteran nationalist had been declared a national hero.
