Doctors On COVID: Health System Getting Overwhelmed

The Zimbabwe College of Public Health Physicians (ZCPHP) have said that the health system is getting overwhelmed as COVID-19 cases and deaths surge. Pindula News present the ZCPHP statement.

THE ZIMBABWE COLLEGE OF PUBLIC HEALTH PHYSICIANS (ZCPHP) STATEMENT IN SOLIDARITY WITH COLLECTIVE EFFORTS TO CURB THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN ZIMBABWE. Noting that: 1. The COVID19 wave is unrelenting. with all provinces reporting an increase in COVID-19 cases. including in rural areas.

2. Over 30 people dying from COVID-19 related complications, with 80 people battling for their lives on any given day.

3. The health system is getting overwhelmed, which increases the risk of death, not only from COVID-19 but from other diseases as well. Further concerned about the continued close interaction of people without wearing masks properly:

With at least 11.000 people known to be suffering from COVID19 right now (active cases) who may have infected others unknowingly. Consider yourself or the person next to you to be suffering from COVID-19. but not yet tested, who could be unknowingly transmitting COVID-19 to your family, friends, and workmates.

Calling all citizens to action (including those who are already vaccinated against COVID-19):

Avoid or minimise close interaction with people from other households. t. Avoid or minimize time in congested areas (shopping malls. public transport. workspaces, funeral gatherings). If you really must interact with people from outside your household. always maintain at least 1.5m distance, in a well ventilated or open space.

4. Avoid or delay traveling to or from areas considered COVID-19 hotspots. 4. Always wear your masks correctly whenever you interact with people from other households. 4. Always clean your hands before and after touching surfaces. 4. If you experience symptoms suggestive of COVID-19, immediately isolate yourself and arrange to get tested. Get vaccinated against COVID-19 at your nearest health facility.
