ZANU PF Gears Up For By-elections

The ruling ZANU PF party has invited interested cadres who wish to participate in internal elections to select candidates to fill all vacant posts in either the National Chamber or Local Authorities to submit their curricula vitarum (CVs).

In a memorandum addressed to all District Coordinating Committee (DCC) chairpersons in Matabeleland North Province, dated 1 July 2021, the Provincial Secretary for Administration, one D. Khoza said the deadline for the submission of the CVs is the 15th of this month. He wrote:

The Acting National Secretary for Commissariat calls for submission of Curriculum Vitae (CVs) by 15 July 2021 for all vacant National Assembly and Local authorities vacant seats where primary elections are not yet held.

The CVs must be forwarded to the Province for consideration by the Provincial Elections Directorate before sending them to National Commissariat.

The National Commissariat will determine dates for Primary elections and the DCCs will be advised accordingly.

Note that the DCC has no mandate to disqualify any aspiring candidate.

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission((ZEC) recently said that it is committed and ready to hold by-elections but is only waiting for a nod from the Health and Child Care Ministry.

The Ministry of Health suspended public gatherings as part of efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

ZEC said there were 117 pending by-elections but that the COVID-19 pandemic had made it impossible for the body to hold elections.
