Zimbabwe Records 59 COVID-19 Deaths In 1 Week

Zimbabwe has recorded 59 COVID-19 deaths in one (1) week as the Southern African country is experiencing a coronavirus resurgence.

From the 20th of June to the 26th of June, in chronological order, officially reported COVID-19 deaths were as follows: 6; 13; 6; 1; 17; 12 and 4, with most of the fatalities recorded in Mashonaland West.

The death toll since March last year when Zimbabwe first recorded its first COVID-19 death has since risen to 1 725.

The sharp rise in COVID-19 deaths in recent weeks is attributed to the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus which authorities say is already in the country.

The Delta variant was first reported in India where it killed hundreds of thousands within a very limited space of time.
