National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and said investigations were still in progress adding a manhunt for the accomplices has since been launched. He said:

_On June 17, 2021, detectives in Marondera arrested a suspect aged 52 in connection with a robbery case that occurred in Bromley along Harare-Mutare Highway._

_Three complainants who were travelling in a Honda Fit vehicle to Mutare were intercepted along the way by the suspects who were driving a Honda CRV vehicle. The suspects stole US$70 000 cash, a cellphone and Honda Fit after shooting one of the victims on the arm._

The stolen Honda Fit which had been dumped about five kilometres from the scene was recovered following the shootout and arrest of the 52-year-old.

Cases of armed robberies have been on the rise in the country in recent years.

The matter is causing headaches to authorities to the extent that President Emmerson Mnangagwa spoke about it at the National Heroes Acre this Monday when he presided over the burial of Father Emmanuel Ribeiro.
