Fraudsters Dupe Car Buyers Using Lawyer's Lost Certificate

The Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has warned members of the public of the existence of a motor vehicle selling scam by a group of individuals using an expired practising certificate belonging to a lawyer, Tendai Sithole.

In a statement this Tuesday, LSZ said Sithole lost some of his documents, including his practising certificate, which is now being used by the criminals. The statement read:

The Law Society of Zimbabwe would like to draw the attention of the public to a motor vehicle selling scam by a group of individuals using Mr Nigel Tendai Sithole’s 2020 Practicing Certificate.

Mr Sithole is a legal practitioner who lost some of his documents one of which is now being used by the criminals.

Police have been notified and are investigating numerous cases, particularly in the Victoria Falls area, of people being lured into a non-existent car purchase scheme.

The public is advised that Practicing Certificates issued by the Law Society of Zimbabwe expire at the end of each calendar year.

The public is advised not to engage a legal practitioner who is using an expired Practicing Certificate.
