Zimbabwean Linked Regé-Jean Page Leaves Bridgerton

British actor Regé-Jean Page will not reprise his role as Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings in Season 2 of the Netflix series Bridgerton.

In an announcement on its social media pages, Bridgerton announced:
Dearest Readers,
While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Rege-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer — more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.
Yours Truly,
Lady Whistledown
In response Page wrote this on his Twitter account:
Pleasure and a privilege! An honour to be a member of the family – on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans – the love is real and will just keep growing.
No reasons were offered by Netflix beyond an announcement through social media accounts in the voice of “Bridgerton’s” gossip writer character, Lady Whistledown. In its announcement, Netflix made it clear Daphne will be part of Season 2 suggesting that the Page is behind the decision not to appear in Season 2. Page had signed a one year contract as reported by the LA Times.
Another reason that has been offered by the Los Angeles Times is that Netflix is following  Julia Quinn novels, each of which focuses on a different Bridgerton sibling and their romantic foibles. In this regard, Netflix has already indicated Season 2 will follow Daphne’s brother Lord Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and his quest to find a viscountess.
