Harare City Council director of works Isaac Zvenyika Chawatama is believed to have fled to South Africa. He is now on Special Anti-Corruption Unit (Sacu)’s wanted list.
Chawatama was summoned by the Sacu to appear in court on Tuesday over a dispute with a Borrowdale resident. He was also supposed to answer to allegations of abuse of power. Chawatama was supposed to appear in court together with former town clerk Hosiah Chisango.
He had previously denied that he was on the run and the court appearance was expected to establish if had indeed fled prosecution. A leaked Harare City Council memo seen by NewsDay indicated that Isaac Zvenyika Chawatama was cleared to use a council vehicle to travel to South Africa until mid-April.
The memo published by the publication reads,
Kindly allow engineer I Z Chawatama to use vehicle registration number AAE 7176 Nissan NP300 (diesel) to travel to South Africa between March 22 and April 14.
When the publication contacted Sacu head Tabani Mpofu for a comment yesterday he said that he had not yet seen the memo that cleared Chawatama to travel to South Africa.

He has proved that he’s a ZanuPF activist given the antics used to evade ZRP.
Both Zanu (PF) and the MDC are complicit in all of this criminal behavior.
