Police Arrest 3 Notorious Bindura Fraudsters

Statement by National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on the arrest of three fraudsters in Bindura and security guards in Chinhoyi.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Collen Chairuka (36), Tatenda Brenda Pangidzwa (34) and Malven Chiyangwa (35) in connection with cases of fraud that occurred in and around Bindura from 10 February 2021 to 14 February 2021.

Police received information to the effect that the suspects were defrauding members of the public by sending them fake WhatsApp confirmation messages of RTGS money transfers after receiving United States Dollars. A trap was set by Police who managed to arrest the suspects.

The first complainant lost USD 4 100.00 after receiving a text message of ZWL 538 000.00 payment to Inscor.

The second complainant lost USD 10 000.00 after a fake message of ZWL 1 230 000. 00 for alleged Netone airtime. He realised this after Netone Mt Darwin dismissed the alleged payment.

The third complainant lost USD 12 000. 00 for alleged payment to ZIMRA for vehicle importation duty clearance.

Police urge members of the public to verify transactions before parting with their hard-earned cash and desist from illegal foreign currency dealings.

In a case of theft and making a false report to the Police, which occurred at Eldorado Mine in Chinhoyi on 18 March 2021, twelve artisanal miners connived with security guards at the mine to conduct illegal mining activities.

After the act, the security guards proceeded to Chinhoyi Rural Police Station where they made a report that the mine had been invaded by people dressed in army and police uniforms.

Investigations were done and through the CCTV footages, it was established that the security guards made a false report as no uniformed members of the security services entered these premises on the particular day.

Police also managed to arrest two artisanal miners who indicated that their team was still underground and were never accompanied by any uniformed personnel.  The arrested suspects are Maybe Kasikwari (27) and Takemore Kapungu (37).

Instead, the suspects revealed that the security guards had been offered USD 200.00 per person to allow the suspects to gain entry into the mine shafts.
