Piers Morgan Resigns After Comments On Harry, Meghan Interview

Piers Morgan has resigned from his role as a presenter of ITV’s Good Morning Britain following his remarks on Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle interview.

Piers Morgan’s departure was announced in a statement by the broadcaster. Read the statement:

Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.

Harry and Meghan had told Oprah Winfrey that some members of the royal family had uttered racist remarks towards Meghan and her then-unborn baby Archie. 

Meghan said that she actually considered committing suicide and when she approached the royal family, she did not get the help she needed.

After the clip aired, Morgan said during Monday’s programme: 

I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says.

I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report.

More than 41 000 complaints regarding Piers Morgan’s comment eventually came in prompting the broadcasting regulator Ofcom to launch an investigation under harm and offence rules

The royal family is yet to respond to the allegations of racism.

On Tuesday, co-presenter Alex Beresford suggested that Piers Morgan does not like Meghan Markle adding “you’ve made it so clear a number of times on this programme…” Beresford continued:

And I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off.

She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off?

I don’t think she has but yet you continue to trash her…

Morgan then stood up and remarked on the weather presenter’s sentiments:

OK, I’m done with this.

He then stormed off as Beresford called his actions “diabolical behaviour”.
