No Sign Of "Abducted" Journalist Itai Dzamara 6 Years Later

Today, 9, March 2021, marks the 6th anniversary of the disappearance of Zimbabwean journalist Itai Dzamara who was allegedly abducted by suspected state security agents.

Itai Damara was a staunch critic of the administration of Zimbabwe’s founding leader, the late former President Robert Mugabe.

Reports suggest that Itai Dzamara was abducted in 2015 whilst he was having a hair shave and no one knows his whereabouts even to date.

His family – wife, children, and brothers have been writing to the government for assistance and to the international community for intervention but all efforts have been in vain.

His wife Sheffra said she was still hurting and would want closure on what transpired to her husband.

Meanwhile, opposition MDC Alliance Vice President, Tendai Biti suggests he knows the person behind Dzamara’s disappearance. He tweeted this Tuesday:

On 9 March 2015, Itai Dzamara was abducted and never seen again. Only one man in Zimbabwe has the audacity, the cynicism, the indifference, the cruelty &the capacity to have ordered Itai’s capture. To-date he has remained astonishingly quiet. Please know that we know you know we know.

Previously, exiled former cabinet minister Professor Jonathan Moyo had pointed fingers at President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He said Itai Dzamara disappeared when Mnangagwa was the Acting President suggesting he might know what transpired to the journo.

Moyo’s recent remarks were a departure from those he made in 2015 immediately after it had been reported that Dzamara had been abducted.

Moyo, back then, dismissed the reports that Itai Dzamara had been abducted claiming that the opposition MDC knew where the journalist was adding that he was hiding in Botswana and would one day come out.

In 2014, Dzamara embarked on a one-man protest movement by sitting in Africa Unity Square calling for then-President Robert Mugabe to relinquish power over maladministration.

He was assaulted by police officers and at some point was left motionless.
